PRACTICAL ROOFING GUIDE
Compare tile roof proposals without guessing
Compare equivalent scopes first, then consider the contractor’s explanation, scheduling and written commitments. The lowest headline total may leave essential work unpriced.
Make a side-by-side record
For each proposal write down the base price, roof sections included, specified materials, items excluded and known extra charges. If an item is unclear, mark it unresolved rather than entering zero. Ask the contractor to clarify missing items in a revised written proposal.
Normalize only known differences
If one proposal excludes a required item and you have a written price for it, add that price when comparing totals. Do not estimate an unknown exclusion simply to make the worksheet complete. Our comparison tool works with your entered amounts, without asking for a name, address or email.
Compare how the job will be managed
Ask who handles permit coordination, property protection, daily cleanup and your questions during work. Discuss payment milestones, expected scheduling, weather interruptions and the process for approving changes. Any workmanship or manufacturer warranty should be supplied in writing with its scope and exclusions.
Leave room to say no or wait
If the roof is serviceable and the project is elective, you can take time to compare options. If there is active damage, separate the immediate protective work from the long-term decision. A pressure deadline or an insurance promise is not a substitute for an understandable scope.
Your takeaway: Choose after unresolved items are explained. A worksheet can organize a decision; it cannot inspect the roof or verify a contractor’s promise.
